The Purple Heart tree
In our Reserve we protect and reproduce this valuable species
The Puple Heart Tree, or Tananeo, (Peltogyne Purpurea), gives our Reserve its name. It is also is also known as Nazareno, because of the intense purple color of its wood.
It is classified as vulnerable and in danger of disappearing due to its intense exploitation.
This tree can reach up to 50 meters in height and 1.5 meters in diameter, but due to its slow growth it needs several centuries.
